NC Symphony with Tony Desare

When: Wed., Dec. 31, 8 p.m. 2014

N.C. SYMPHONY & TONY DESARE

MEYMANDI CONCERT HALL, RALEIGH

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 31

Close your eyes and simply listen to singer Tony DeSare. This vocalist of a hundred voices does a spot-on Sinatra and an uncanny Michael McDonald, too. While other mimics sometimes reduce a beloved performer to a set of empty, recombinant vocal moves (Looking at you, Madeleine Peyroux), DeSare channels how they handle a song, not simply how their voices sound. He's a consummate piano player and songwriter, who mixes up-tempo Rat Pack numbers with contemporary ballads on par with Michael Bublé. DeSare joins the North Carolina Symphony for a New Year's Eve show featuring Viennese melodies and classic crooner fare from Cole Porter and Rodgers & Hammerstein. 8 p.m., $52–$72, 2 E. South St., Raleigh, 919-733-2750, ncsymphony.org.Chris Vitiello

Price: $52-$72
