NC Symphony Summerfest: Totally 80s

When: Sat., June 6, 7:30 p.m. 2015

No matter your feelings on the idea of the North Carolina Symphony playing Don Henley and Cyndi Lauper hits among the tall pines of Cary’s amphitheater, you have to admire the organization’s mutual commitments to entertainment and expansion. They’re just months away from launching what’s perhaps their most artistically audacious season ever and two years from their inclusion in a prestigious new festival of orchestras. But they pause here to play the likes of “In the Air Tonight” for families on picnic blankets, a concession to fun and light fare that ensures that, as they grow, they’ve maintained some solid base of goodwill. Singer Joe Cassidy takes the lead role. —Grayson Haver Currin

Price: $33-$35
