NC Symphony Classical Series: Brandenburg and Brahms

When: Fri., Nov. 21, 8 p.m. and Sat., Nov. 22, 8 p.m. 2014

Don’t be surprised if the third movement of Brahms’ Violin Concerto makes you feel presidential, as the passage inspired Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina,” from Evita. The N.C. Symphony builds a strings-heavy program around Bach’s Brandenberg Concerto No. 3 and the Brahms, for which Augustin Hadelich will take on the technically demanding solo violin role. By adding Ravel’s suite of piano pieces to fallen soldiers, Le tombeau de Couperin, the Symphony takes a late Veterans Day look at the centennial of World War I. —Chris Vitiello
