NC Dance Festival | Meredith College: Jones Auditorium | Stage | Indy Week

NC Dance Festival

When: Sept. 7-9 2012

For 22 years, the North Carolina Dance Festival has showcased some of the state's most promising dance talent in a series of fall and winter concerts from the mountains to the coast. This year's tour begins Friday and Saturday in Raleigh, with different lineups highlighting the diversity of the state's dance scene.

Friday, the terpsichorean comedy of Gary Taylor and the Winston-Salem Festival Ballet seems a good match with the droll social commentary of Raleigh's own Code f.a.d. Gaspard Louis' Durham troupe will reprise their recent appearance at American Dance Festival, after work from festival founder Jan Van Dyke's troupe from Greensboro.

Saturday features theatrical psychodrama in a farewell performance by John Gamble Dance Theater, the pensive work of Charlotte's E.E. Balcos, intense contact by Kearns Dance Project and the musings of host choreographer Carol Finley. A video preview is at; in-depth interviews with the artists are at —Byron Woods

Price: $5-25
