Nazim Hikmet Poetry Festival

When: Sun., April 18, 1-6 p.m. 2010

The area's Turkish community celebrates the life and work of World Peace Prize winner Nazim Hikmet with its second annual festival celebrating poetry from around the state and the world. The festival includes a keynote address by Hikmet scholar Mutlu Konuk Blasing of Brown University, a poetry workshop led by Chris Salerno, an instructor at N.C. State and former winner and judge of the Indy's poetry contest; a poetry competition that has already received entries from 175 poets, some of them internationally known; and a reading by local poets Jeffery Beam, Joseph Donahue and Jaki Shelton Green. The free event takes place from 1–6 p.m. at the Page-Walker Arts and History Center, 119 Ambassador Loop, and is open to the public. —Zack Smith
