Al Di Meola

Legendary guitarist Al Di Meola brings his fusion of eclectic, cross-continental sounds--that span from tango to jazz rock--to Raleigh's Lincoln Theatre this Wednesday. The New Jersey native draws his musical influences from guitarist Larry Coryell and the local salsa clubs he frequented in his youth. After attending Boston's Berklee School of Music, Di Meola made his first significant mark on the music world when he recorded with legendary pianist Chick Corea on Return to Forever. Di Meola went on to release sixteen recordings, most notably, 1991's award-winning album World Sinfonia and the 1994 Orange and Blue, which largely borrowed from the fiery rhythms of Latin America. Di Meola's latest release, Flesh on Flesh, pushes his talent even further, balancing culturally diverse music with his own personal style. Be sure to witness this great performer, who still continues to broaden the definition of a jazz musician. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 8 p.m. Lincoln Theatre, 126 E. Cabarrus St., Raleigh. 821-4111. $20 in advance, $25 the day of the show.
