Oteil Burbridge

comment
Oteil Burbridge calls the music he makes with his band the Peacemakers "jazzy Jesus funk." Since rededicating his life to Christ, the Allman Brothers bassist has incorporated his newly strengthened faith into his own music. "It's the same thing as Bob Marley," he says of his celestial musical infusions. "He talked so much about Jah and the Rastafarian religion in his reggae music, so to me it's kind of the same thing. If you write songs, what else do you have but your own life to pull from?" Burbridge's life has been pretty interesting to date. The six-string bassist started with Col. Bruce Hampton's Aquarium Rescue Unit and then took over Allen Woody's slot in the Allmans in '97. Burbridge is a highly regarded bassist comfortable playing jazz, funk, rock, Latin or bluegrass. In addition to the Peacemakers and the Allmans, he plays with Derek Trucks' side project Frogwings, has toured with Gov't Mule, and played in Phish's Paige McConnell's side project Vida Blue. Catch him at the Lincoln Theatre, Friday, Nov. 8.
