Ms. Lauryn Hill, Raury

When: Mon., Aug. 10, 8 p.m. 2015

The many complaints about how Lauryn Hill conducts herself on the concert circuit are whiny as weed-eaters. Attending a Hill show means you shouldn't expect for her to perform her record-breaking, Grammy-winning, pluperfect album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, note-for-note or line-for-line. Respect her remix mode, or stay home. Attending a Hill concert also means you might have to wait longer than expected, as she has a reputation for not showing up on time. Sit down and chat with your neighbors. Remember, Hill single-handedly extended Nina Simone's revolution, Bob Marley's evangelism and Roberta Flack's sanctity, all while stretching hip-hop's wings. No, Raleigh's Red Hat Amphitheater might not have been the right venue for Hill to plop down on a stool with her guitar last July and reenact a couple of songs from her MTV Unplugged No. 2.0 album. In this cozier space, perhaps L-Boogie will give us her full acoustic treatment. Raury opens. 8 p.m., $57–$207.63, 309 W. Morgan St., Durham, 919-560-3030, —Eric Tullis
