Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
Charlie Bucket (Peter Ostrum) is a poor chap whose life is pretty glum. When he hears that candy maker Willy Wonka (Gene Wilder) is admitting five winners to his chocolate factory, life suddenly becomes sugary sweet. Charlie is joined by an insufferable mix of well-to-dos including the bratty Veruca Salt (Julie Dawn Cole), haughty gum-chewing Violet Beauregarde (Denise Nickerson), couch-potato Mike Teevee (Paris Themmen) and the ever-hungry Augustus Gloop (Michael Bollner). Directed by Mel Stuart, this 1971 classic is a musical fairy tale replete with spectacular sets, chocolate rivers, Oompa Loompas, whipped mushrooms, and every sweet imaginable. Adapted from Roald Dahl's novel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the film is presented by the Amphitheatre at Regency Park in Cary. See "Special Showings" for more information.
