Shackleton's Antarctic Adventure
Raleigh's Exploris Museum opens its long-awaited IMAX film, Shackleton's Antarctic Adventure, this Friday, March 15. Celebrated polar explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton set sail with a crew of 27 men in late 1914, with the goal of crossing the Antarctic continent. Shackleton's goal was abandoned shortly into the journey, when his ship was caught in Antarctic pack ice and eventually crushed. The crew was stranded with meager provisions, camping on ice floes for five months. In a daring rescue attempt, Shackleton and five crew members sailed more than 800 miles in a small life boat to safety, returning to save the other crew members. See "Movie Capsules" for theaters.
