James McBride and Song Yet Sung
Quail Ridge Books and Music—A dual artist—as a jazz musician and a writer—James McBride is the author of four books, three of them novels. His first novel, The Miracle at St. Anna, is being turned into a Spike Lee film. Song Yet Sung, his latest, is inspired by Harriet Tubman about two slaves and the tyrannical world that surrounds them. For more info, visit, or call 828-1588. —Megan Stein

Chapel Hill
Taz Halloween Chatham County Luau
Local 506—With a voice as big and outrageous as her name, Taz Halloween's siren song has ruled Triangle stages for more than two decades. Her sultry vamps, saucy Southern sashay and curtain-burning torch-singing have graced numerous local combos, where her luminous personality can't help but steal the stage. She's a fire starter, and—tonight, in late February?—she hosts a luau. —Chris Parker
