Molly Sweeney

When: Sept. 29-Oct. 9 2011

This three-person drama is based on a case study originally written by British medical author Oliver Sacks (Awakenings, The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat) in which an Irish woman, blind since childhood, regains her sight as an adult—an event that unleashes a series of unexpected consequences. Brian Friel's adaptation of the tale is a series of disjunctive monologues (critic Vincent Canby called them "sternly anti-theatrical" in his review of the play's New York premiere) in which the title character, her husband and her doctor unfold a meditation on the differing—and at times metaphorical—versions of vision and blindness.

A 1997 PlayMakers Rep production proved the work ultimately depends upon three actors' abilities to tell a story. That shouldn't be a problem for a cast that includes Samantha Corey, Stephen LeTrent and Lucius Robinson in this Delta Boys production. —Byron Woods
