Midtown Music Fest: American Aquarium, Four Founders, The Jason Adamo Band

When: Sun., June 7, 2 p.m. 2015

MIDTOWN MUSIC FEST

NORTH HILLS, RALEIGH | SUNDAY, JUNE 7

Only three years ago, Raleigh alt-country survivalists American Aquarium would have never headlined a party like Artsplosure, as they did in May, or Midtown Music Fest, a lawn party and fashion show in the North Hills shopping center. Frontman B.J. Barham's songs about getting bitterly loaded and wasting away one relationship or another wouldn't have suited such a Sunday evening family crowd. But sobriety and maturity have benefited both Barham and his band, resulting in songs that turn those tumultuous experiences into homilies about how nice it is to be sticking around—existentially, romantically, professionally. This year's Wolves is easily their best work yet. The graceful Jason Adamo Band and the energetic Four Founders mix soul and acoustic rock in different ratios; they offer early sets before American Aquarium closes this gratis Sunday of music, food and fashion at 7 p.m. Free, 2–9 p.m., 4011 Cardinal at North Hills St., Raleigh, 919-881-1146, www.visitnorthhills.com. —Grayson Haver Currin
