When: Sat., Sept. 7, 5 p.m. 2013
Food historian & chef Michael Twitty will oversee a meal cooked according to 19th-century methods, with recipes reflecting celebratory foods eaten by enslaved North Carolinians & free blacks in antebellum times. Barbecue will be cooked all day over oak, hickory & fruit woods. For side dishes & desserts, fresh produce & fruit will become cast-iron-cooked delicacies. The $75 fundraising dinner follows the free all-day Harvest Festival, where there will be small tastings 11-11:30 am & 1-1:45 pm.
