Metamorphoses | Miriam Preston Block Gallery | Arts | Indy Week

When: Wed., May 1, 5-7 p.m. 2013

Something happens when you look at Jessica Dupuis' ceramic sculptures. Composed of colorful shards, they're still, but they jitter. Your eyes can't rest upon them. Your glance darts, following the flow or grain of the surface before finding an accentuated shadow or protrusion to catch on for a moment. At the Block Gallery through June 21, Metamorphoses shows Dupuis' work with Julie Anne Greenberg's mixed-media prints. As Dupuis explores optical means to make her works shift, Greenberg captures the most restless of substances—water—in mixed-media prints for which she incorporated falling rain and thawing ice into her compositional process. Drew Robertson's new video work shows in Block2. The Tender Fruit, featuring chimerical lead Christy Smith, plays Wednesday's opening reception. Works by Sertoma and Pullen Arts Center instructors and students are on display upstairs. —Chris Vitiello
