Melissa Swingle, Dexter Romweber, Tom Maxwell

When: Fri., Nov. 9, 10 p.m. 2012

Three of the area's most enduring musicians share this bill. Former Squirrel Nut Zipper Tom Maxwell opens, supporting last year's minor masterpiece, Kingdom Come. He penned in the midst of his personal "Hell"—a divorce and a cancer diagnosis for his son. The album ranges from expected jazzy roots to garage-abilly and baroque pop, paired with a commensurate dose of wit. He's followed by local guitar legend Dexter Romweber, whose mastery of the country and rockabilly idioms is awe-inspiring. There's a mad abandon to his best playing, but he can also be quite soulful and reflective. He turned up the rock on last year's Is That You in the Blue? Its adventurous mix of styles makes the album a standout in his catalog. The evening closes with Melissa Swingle's newest ensemble. The former Trailer Bride frontwoman led The Moaners for seven years and three albums before the duo split early this year. Swingle embraces a return to the band setting to trace a path between her two prior acts. The $7 show starts at 10 p.m. —Chris Parker
