When: Jan. 17-March 28 2015

MEDICI SCHMEDICI: DEMYSTIFYING THE ARTIST/COLLECTOR BOND RECEPTION

SATURDAY, JAN. 17, DURHAM

CRAVEN ALLEN GALLERY—Anyone can collect art. That statement might elicit a snort if you think only of headline-grabbing auction prices for Warhols or Van Goghs. But even high-end collectors start small, developing mutually supportive relationships with artists they're passionate about. Craven Allen Gallery highlights the symbiosis between local collectors and renowned North Carolina artists in the exhibition Medici Schmedici: Demystifying the Artist/Collector Bond, through March 28. Work by Heather Gordon, Pamela Pecchio, Thomas Sayre, Burk Uzzle and MJ Sharp (who co-curated with collector Frank Konhaus) is on display, and their respective collectors reveal—through the exhibit, as well as a series of public talks—the stories of how their relationships began and developed. 5–7 p.m., free, 1106 1/2 Broad St., Durham, 919-286-4837, www.cravenallengallery.com. —Chris Vitiello
