Masked | The Carrack Modern Art | Stage | Indy Week

When: Sat., Oct. 3, 8-9 p.m. and Sat., Oct. 10, 8-9 p.m. 2015

THE CARRACK MODERN ART—Practitioners of the Italian theatrical art form commedia dell'arte know that only when we put on masks do we show some of our other, equally true faces. Actor and director Evan Mitchell has studied commedia and other stage art forms during his time in Paris, Ecuador and New York, and he's developed significant local cred working with Manbites Dog Theatre, Delta Boys, puppet-theater maven Torry Bend and student groups at UNC-Chapel Hill. In this solo performance, Mitchell uses the ancient art of masks to look into the lives of three intertwined characters and explore "the inherent comedy and tragedy of our human existence." On Oct. 3, the performance follows The Carrack's 7 p.m. opening reception for its 2015 retrospective, R.E.C.A.P. You can catch Masked again the next Saturday, Oct. 10. 8 p.m., $5 suggested donation, 111 Parrish St., Durham, 704-214-3666, —Byron Woods
