Mary's Wedding

When: Jan. 12-22 2012

"Before we begin, there is something I have to tell you. Tonight is just a dream. I ask you to remember that. It begins at the end and ends at the beginning. There are sad parts. Don't let that stop you from dreaming it too."

With this invocation, Charlie, a Canadian farm boy from the dawn of the 20th century, admits us into a world where distance and war cannot defeat love—but certainly transmute it. In playwright Stephen Massicotte's romantic drama, star-crossed lovers separated at the start of World War I are not only somehow able to picture one another from afar, they're allowed to step into the body of a significant person in each other's world. Mary inhabits Charlie's sergeant on a battlefield in France, while Charlie embodies ... someone we can't mention here.

Joshua Benjamin directs this second stage, "Wait 'Til You See This" production with actors Caitlin Davis and Matthew Hager. The play runs Thursdays–Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m., through Jan. 22. —Byron Woods
