Marshall Tucker Band-CANCELED

When: Wed., Jan. 21, 8 p.m. 2015

After Live Nation’s reported $1 million renovation to The Ritz, the old aluminum warehouse just inside the beltline, you wouldn’t expect the venue to hit “restart” with The Marshall Tucker Band. After a string of soft-country-rock hits four decades ago, the band has gone on to epitomize the more flaccid side of Southern rock and bands that don’t know when to check out already. But with lead singer Doug Gray having survived in the position since the Nixon administration, perhaps the booking is a serendipitous metaphor for the survival and possible renewal of the space, which has fallen in and out of use during the last decade. It can be, as the band once sang, a long, hard ride. —Grayson Haver Currin
