Mallarmé Chamber Players

When: Sun., May 6, 7 p.m. 2012

Durham's protean ensemble, the Mallarmé Chamber Players, recently held its annual "Edging the Cut" composition contest for a 10-minute piece penned by a Duke student. Grad student David Garner's "the machine without horses," which is based on a traditional Scottish fiddle tune and dance, took the 2012 prize, requiring electric guitar, saxophone and percussion to sit in with the chamber players. Mallarmé presents Garner's winning piece at this 7 p.m. show, along with works by David Stock, Judd Greenstein and Louis Andriessen, and Duke professors Scott Lindroth and John Supko. —Chris Vitiello
