"Looking at African Art in the 21st Century"

When: Sun., Feb. 19, 2:30 p.m. 2012

South Africa, considered to be one of the cradles of humanity, is ripe with evidence of creative beings. In this museum lecture, Dr. Rebecca Martin Nagy, director of the Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art at the University of Florida and former NCMA curator of African art, grapples with the challenge of how to look at, reflect upon and talk about the rapidly evolving and dynamic field of African art. Many of NCMA's African art pieces were acquired during her time here, making her perspective on this rich and complex work very personal. The lecture begins at 2:30 p.m. in the museum's East Building Auditorium. Admission is free but a ticket from the box office is required. —Christina Cass
