"Let Her Speak"

When: Sat., Nov. 2, 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. 2013

In June of last year, Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis took the chamber floor and held it for 10 hours. Under the disdainful eyes of her overwhelmingly male and Republican fellow legislators, Davis' filibuster thwarted a vote on a law restricting access to abortion in Texas. Now, local readers are gathering to take turns reading Davis' lengthy prepared text in its entirety as an acknowledgement of her tenacity and endurance, as well as her cause and the publication of her text by Counterpath Press. Half of the day-of sales of the book will go to Planned Parenthood of North Carolina, an organization under constant threat from our own state legislature. Organized by filmmaker and writer Erin Espelie, writer Adra Raine and the Little Green Pig Theatrical Concern, this protest performance provides an interesting dramatic counterpoint to the rhetorical sprawl of Moral Mondays. —Chris Vitiello
