Lee Boys, Hank Sinatra

When: Thu., May 29, 9 p.m. 2014

Like Robert Randolph, Florida sextet The Lee Boys emerged from the sacred steel tradition of the House of God church. And like Randolph, this family band adds a lot of secular influence to its spiritual songs. Built around funky rhythms and scorching blues-rock solos, these rousing gospel numbers can take even the most unwilling to church. The band's originals sometimes slow it down, adding a smooth R&B aspect inspired by Stevie Wonder. Raleigh's Hank Sinatra open; they ply the kind of unpolished, unhinged rock that's born in garages, honky-tonks and pool halls.. —Spencer Griffith
