Laetitia Sadier Source Ensemble, Art Feynman (Back Room)

When: Tue., Aug. 8, 8:30 p.m. 2017

London's Stereolab is synonomous with a certain aesthetic, a boho blend of retro-futurist lounge jazz and arch elevator music, which exerted a powerful influence on the baroque sound that was just starting to be called "post-rock" when the band formed in the early nineties. It went on "indefinite hiatus" eight years ago, but Stereolab's Laetitia Sadier has kept the style alive and evolving in a steady solo career. In March, she released Find Me Finding You as a not-quite-solo project, using the moniker Laetitia Sadier Source Ensemble. It's a cool, supple LP, but its easygoing and often shimmery instrumentation stands in contrast with Sadier's pointed lyricism. "Can I love you and stay free?/ We are made to love, not to fall in love," she sings on "Love Captive." Too bad the Cradle's back room isn't outfitted with overstuffed couches and dim floor lamps for Sadier's stop, but she'll keep you on your toes anyway. Art Feynman opens. —Allison Hussey
