Kishi Bashi, My Darling Fury, Prypyat

When: Thu., Sept. 19, 9 p.m. 2013

A violinist who sings, plays and then loops the parts into a mini-orchestra live, Kishi Bashi has consistently been compared to fellow solo violin-pop ascendants Owen Pallett and Andrew Bird. But his music does more than reinvent those popular forebears. An ingenious composer who embeds delightful and indelible melodies within playful psychedelic expanses, Bashi owes as much to the kaleidoscopic grandeur of Pink Floyd and the sudden surges of Queen as he does to the mixtape playing in your local Urban Outfitters. Still, Bashi's sound is decidedly of the moment, a decoupage of electronic bombast and classical accessibility that feels fresh and full of promise. —Grayson Haver Currin
