King Dude, Foie Gras, Dead Lo-Fi, The Great American Witch Hunt

When: Tue., Oct. 13, 8 p.m. 2015

King Dude is totally into darkness, you know? On the cover of the new Songs of Flesh & Blood – In The Key of Light, he emerges from the ground, wearing a black-and-red cape, wielding a guitar and scowling while surrounded by skeletons, fog and candles. The album occasionally intimates such evil. But bellowed in his stentorian voice alongside stiff sturm und drang rock, it feels more than a little put on, like watching an actor step into a role he never considered until he got the call. It’s more funny than forbidding. At least the Dude keeps excellent company: After recently visiting with Earth, King Dude brings along Foie Gras, a captivating project that suggests the floating, slow songs of Grouper suspended in an atmosphere made entirely of thick, gray clouds. —Grayson Haver Currin
