Killer Filler, Mission Creeps

When: Wed., Sept. 8, 10 p.m. 2010

Tucson, Ariz., trio The Mission Creeps offer a slinky, cabaret-noir take on psychobilly. It has all the horror-movie iconography and reverb-heavy '50s guitar, but it's slowed and darkened, like Nick Cave warping The Cramps. "Ghouls Among Us" offers their impression of who runs the world, while their description of body aches, confusion and social disaffection in "A Case of the Zombies," they transform into sinister surf. Instrumentalists Killer Filler are the perfect local musical foil, thanks to their embrace of Booker T & the MGs-style soul, vibrant surf and '50s rock cool enough to give Fonzie the chills.—Chris Parker
