Kenny Roby, Gasoline Stove, Jule Brown

When: Fri., March 16, 9:30 p.m. 2012

Expect rootsy Raleigh singer-songwriter Kenny Roby to be in peak form. The former Six String Drag leader just wrapped a two-month residency at Raleigh's Hillsborough Street institution Sadlack's, which he used to showcase the emotional depth and stylistic breadth of his back catalog while testing material from his fourth solo effort, due this spring. Early indications suggest a sparse, dark record with an indie aesthetic. Chapel Hill foursome Gasoline Stove delivers soulful, gospel-inflected twang, while Pittsboro quartet Jule Brown, fronted by Jennyanykind drummer Mark Holland, mixes Chicago and Delta strains into raw, brooding blues imparted with a cosmic rock vibe. —Spencer Griffith
