Juliette Lewis and Jonny Weston are a quality team as the title characters but that isn't enough to save a film that is essentially a Lifetime movie with an edge. Kelly (Lewis) is a new mom afraid she's losing her sense of Riot Grrl self (she played bass in a band that was like Sleater-Kinney "in a way"). She's tired, stressed, feeling ignored by a constantly working husband and besieged by in-laws she didn't expect to "be so involved in our lives." High school senior Cal (Weston) is in a wheelchair after getting in an accident while trying to impress a girlfriend who ditches him after the tragedy. Naturally, the two misfits follow formula and strike up an unlikely relationship that flirts with the Hey Hey Mrs. Robinson line. The supporting cast (including Cybill Shepherd) exist primarily as props. It is traumatic to be a new parent with no sleep and the realization your life will never be the same. Equating that with losing the use of your legs is just off. The neatly tied bow at the end doesn't help matters either.
