Joe Walsh, Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band

When: Tue., Oct. 18, 7:30 p.m. 2011

Joe Walsh is one of the great underappreciated guitar geniuses of the last half-century. Like his friend Pete Townshend (who played a '59 Gretsch given to him by Walsh on Who's Next), Walsh is a rhythm player with an economical solo style and a gift for catchy riffs. What he lacks in guitar flash, Walsh has covered with his colorful personality. While he's quieted his notorious appetite for drug and alcohol excess—he did join the Eagles on Hotel California—he's still a wry, spry character. Still occasionally occupied with the Eagles, Walsh is (slowly) working with Jeff Lynne (ELO, Traveling Wilburys) on his first solo album since 1992. The Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band opens. —Chris Parker
