Jerry Joseph

When: Wed., June 8, 9:30 p.m. 2011

For artists such as Jerry Joseph, music is an endurance race. Joseph's gruff, earnest vocals recall The Boss a bit, with the requisite burrs and scratches that come from a quarter century in the business. A roots rocker with a bit of a jam impulse, Joseph went solo in the mid-'90s after his first band, Little Women, broke up. He's since worked with Widespread Panic's Dave Schools, who has produced his albums, played in Stockholm Syndrome with him and covered several of Joseph's songs in Widespread. It's a ringing, folk-inflected sound reminiscent of stripped-down Counting Crows, saved by a stronger backbeat and bigger grooves. —Chris Parker
