Jeff Parker

When: Sat., Aug. 24, 11 a.m. 2013

Starting off as an artist at the now-defunct Malibu Comics in the 1990s, North Carolina comic creator Jeff Parker broke out as a writer and artist with his self-published graphic novel The Interman, which has led to a long and acclaimed run writing for Marvel and other publishers. More recently, he's applied his offbeat, humor-filled style to such tales as the Eisner-nominated webcomic Bucko (a Coen brothers-esque non-murder mystery set in Portland, Ore., where he now lives), a large number of Marvel books including Hulk, Thunderbolts and X-Men First Class, and DC Comics' Batman '66, which adapts the look and style of the campy Adam West series to comic form. (A future issue features art by Raleigh's Sandy Jarrell of Nice Price Books.) Parker will be signing at this return to his home state, and you might even be able to get him to draw something again if you help end his Twitter complaints about the lack of Bojangles on the West Coast. Also, you should totally call him "Parker-Brother." He loves that. Loves that. —Zack Smith
