THE ARTSCENTER, CARRBORO | SATURDAY, MARCH 7

Though Raleigh native Jeanne Jolly has collaborated with Grammy-nominated R&B duo The Foreign Exchange and Grammy-winning jazz trumpeter Chris Botti, the classically trained singer wraps those diverse experiences into rather earthy solo work. Her heartfelt autobiographical songwriting and stunning, soulful singing blend into graceful Southern pop, backed by an all-star crew of locals who offer gentle and lush instrumental flourishes. The ethereal vocals and atmospheric flair of "The Kiss" prove she's more adventurous than your average country songstress, too. Meanwhile, Durham's Brett Harris continues to ply jangle-pop gems with preternatural ease. Last year's Mr. Sunshine EP offered a captivating tease for a forthcoming full-length; in recent years, those chops and charms have earned him gigs as a sideman with genre pioneers The dB's and recreating the classic songbook of Big Star with touring tribute act Big Star's Third. 8 p.m., $13–$17, 300-G E. Main St., Carrboro, 919-929-2787, www.artscenterlive.org. —Spencer Griffith
