JASONFEST FEATURING CONFESSOR

LINCOLN THEATRE, RALEIGH

SUNDAY, DEC. 14

Longtime local metal musician Jason Myrick died in October, leaving behind not only a string of bands for which he'd played electric lead but also a family struggling to cover his expenses. To assist in that process, one of North Carolina's mightiest-ever exports and an influence on several of Myrick's projects, the long-running Confessor, plays a rare Raleigh show. Led by Scott Jeffreys, whose clarion falsetto became one of doom metal's landmarks, and backed by one of the most capable and complicated rhythm sections in the darkened subgenre's history, Confessor remains an impossibly strange beast. They're joined by Drill, Eldritch Horror, Alien8 and, most poignantly, brief sets from Myrick's bygone bands, including the agile and aggressive Age of Despair. 3:30 p.m., $10–$15, 126 E. Cabarrus St., Raleigh, 919-821-4111, lincolntheatre.com. —Grayson Haver Currin
