Ipreo Raleigh WinterFest | Downtown Raleigh | Holidays | Indy Week

Ipreo Raleigh WinterFest

When: Sat., Dec. 6, 3-10 p.m. 2014

Raleigh continues to pursue prominent bluegrass branding beyond the fall’s IBMA week; this year’s WinterFest headliners fall loosely under that high, lonesome umbrella, too. The bill most notably includes Peter Rowan, famous for his pioneering work in bluegrass and tenure as one of Bill Monroe’s Blue Grass Boys. A practicing Buddhist is an interesting choice for a “winter holiday” festival, but we’ll take any opportunity to catch Rowan, especially for free. Fans of twang will also find something to love with locals Gasoline Stove and Hank Smith’s Blu Bop, which pays homage to Béla Fleck and The Flecktones. —Allison Hussey
