Independent Animal Rescue Painted Chair + More Auction

When: Sat., Aug. 23, 5-9 p.m. 2014

Headquartered in Durham, Independent Animal Rescue is a volunteer-run, nonprofit animal rescue outfit that focuses on adoption and spay/neuter programs for dogs, cats and companion animals in the Triangle. Its 12th annual fundraiser seeks to drum up $30,000 for these ends in an auction of donations from area artists and animal lovers. On the block will be handcrafted and painted furniture—the titular painted chair, for instance—with jewelry, pottery, performances, services, food and even vacations filling out the (and more). To make the silent auction from 5 to 7 p.m. a little less silent, there will be live music by acoustic Americana band Dogwood Blossom and refreshments on sale. At 7 p.m., Luke Newbold of Hillsborough's Leland Little Estate and Auction Sales hosts a live auction. And there's still time to contact IAR at fundraising@animalrescue.net to sponsor the event or donate items. —Brian Howe
