For 22 years, photojournalist Edward Grazda has made annual trips to Afghanistan, documenting the Mujahideen's successful resistance against Soviet troops, and the rise of the Taliban, one of the most repressive regimes on Earth. Grazda's photographs, collected in the books Afghanistan 1980-1989 and Afghanistan Diary, 1990-2000, show the human faces on the other side of a war, and document a people's military, political, religious and social struggles. See for yourself, at the John Hope Franklin Center's gallery, through the end of January. Call 684-2765 for more details. --Byron Woods
