A new theater company bows this weekend--in a new space--as Theater Or (which is the Hebrew word for light) presents The Chosen at Durham's Judea Reform Congregation. Aaron Posner's adaptation of Chaim Potok's 1967 novel focuses on the complex friendship that develops between two young boys growing up in different Jewish traditions in Brooklyn during the ending years of World War II. No shortage of choices face the two. Do they follow in the paths their fathers have chosen--and chosen for them? Can they choose to bridge the cultural gap which divides them? And what of the choices the world is making all around them? In the face of total annihilation, how many choices are truly available?
Award-winning director Joseph Megel leads a cast including Herb Wolff, Scott Franco and regional veteran Bob Barr in an inaugural production at Judea Reform. Tix are $10-$20. Reservations, call 990-1994.
