In the late 1970s, New Yorker Elizabeth Swados interviewed scores of teens living on the streets. Using these stories of alienation and survival, Swados crafted the hit Broadway play, Runaways, and its themes of young people's anger, abuse, fear and hope in the midst of pain are still relevant decades later. On Sept. 1 and Sept. 2, the Durham-based National Ensemble Theatre will perform the work at the Carolina Theatre, and the production includes actors from local high schools and colleges. Tickets are $15 for general admission; seniors and students $10. For times and more information, call the Carolina Theatre at 560-3030.
