On Thursday, March 20, Chuck Davis, Alexander Rivera and AOL Time Warner Cable will take center stage at the Durham Civic Center for the Spirit of Hayti Awards, to be honored for their commendable achievements in the arts, historic preservation, leadership and corporate philanthropy. The fifth annual black-tie event, which is sponsored by the Durham Marriott and hosted by the St. Joseph's Historic Foundation, celebrates the highest honor given to individuals and organizations by the foundation. Davis, founder and artistic director of the African American Dance Ensemble, will receive the Trail Blazer Award; Rivera, historic preservationist, receives the Legacy Preserver award; and AOL Time Warner Cable will be awarded a Legacy Keeper Award for Corporate Philanthropy. Entertainment will be provided throughout the ceremony by the Hillside High School Jazz Band. The gala kicks off at 6:30 p.m. and tickets are $50.
