When: Sun., Sept. 9, 7 p.m. 2012

Cinema, Inc. kicks off its 2012–13 season with some dark political satire. Those enjoying Julia Louis-Dreyfus on HBO's Veep should check out this underrated 2009 black comedy from that series' creator, Armando Iannucci. A spin-off of sorts from Iannucci's British TV series The Thick of It (currently available on iTunes, with U.S. DVDs coming soon), it's the (very) profane tale of how a series of verbal faux pas results in a minor British minister (Tom Hollander) getting involved in the buildup to a controversial war the British and American governments want. There's a number of familiar actors, most notably James Gandolfini, but the MVP is Peter Capaldi as the prime minister's enforcer, Malcolm Tucker; he's a verbal Ginsu knife capable of unleashing rants filled with the sort of language not even an alternative newsweekly can print. A devastating satire on the pettiness of politics, it's the sort of film that requires multiple viewings, not so much for plot complications but because there's a tendency to miss dialogue from laughing too loudly. (The English/ Scottish accents are tricky, too.) The film screens at 7 p.m.; full-season subscription tickets to Cinema, Inc. are $20. —Zack Smith

Price: $20 (season ticket)
