Tyndall Galleries in Durham is presenting Elizabeth Marin: Recent Paintings from June 13 through July 21. These paintings represent the culmination of Marin's thoughts and observations during a month spent recently in Italy ("Inside the Silence" appears above). "This was a time of looking, stopping, capturing what I saw as well as looking at things through the eyes of my young children and my companion, who is an architect," Marin says. Marin is a self-taught painter with degrees in anthropology and archeology from Appalachian State University. She has traveled widely and her work is now collected in Asia and Europe as well as in her own country. "I have, through these paintings, recorded a moment of my personal history as it unfolded in another culture--a place where, without a common language, my means of communicating was purely visual," she says. There will be a reception for the artist Saturday, June 16, from 6 to 9 p.m. Call 683-8489 for details, or visit www.tyn dallgalleries.com.
