Autumn brings us cooler temperatures and the changing of the leaves. It also brings the Thanksgiving holiday and with that the renewed focus on feeding the hungry. If you're interested in fighting hunger in a non-traditional way, you have some options. When you give blood to the Raleigh and Cary locations of the American Red Cross on Nov. 18 or 19, Thanksgiving turkeys will be donated to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. Exploris Museum has an ongoing exhibit called "Canstruction," featuring sculptures that local architectural and design firms have built entirely out of canned and packaged foods. At the conclusion of the exhibit, the goods will also be donated to the food bank. If you want to give your own goods, Triangle Town Center is accepting donations of non-perishable goods thru Dec. 18. For more info, see www.foodbanknc.org or call the Red Cross at 1-800-448-3543.
