in rock for relief

The people who have put together the series of local tsunami relief shows have done an astounding job gathering a star-studded collection of local acts. One of this week's benefits, on Saturday, Feb. 5 at Martin Street Music Hall, might be the most rocking show of them all. Credit Jett Rink, Snatches of Pink and Portastatic for that. Like Snap, Crackle and Pop, each represents an equally attractive and yet distinct rock approach--from the herky-jerky, high throttle, new wave bump of Jett Rink, to the T. Rex and Stones classic rock crunch of Snatches, to Portastatic's blend of pop vulnerability and snotty indie rock insouciance. The rest of the bill is similarly eclectic, with the sinister sturm und drang of Strange; Schooner's melodious, gently lilting pop-rock river ride; the supple, keyboard-fueled rock angst of Goner; and the tender, folkish melancholia of Erie Choir, the new project of Sorry About Dresden's Eric Roehrig. It all starts at 4 p.m.; tickets are $10.
