Less than a week after Sam Bush hit the Lincoln Theatre, Bush's progressive mandolin peer Jamie Masefield will roll through Raleigh with his Jazz Mandolin Project. The outfit's name is an apt description, as Masefield alternately picks perfect melodies and their incumbent variations from his eight strings or reigns down sheets of stereophonic psychedelia most suitably termed Coltrane and Coleman--inspired, avant-garde jazzgrass. It's truly impressive stuff. On this tour, expect a strange twist in the form of drummer Mark Guiliana atop the Cajon, a Peruvian box drum.
The Jazz Mandolin Project plays The Pour House Music Hall, Wednesday, Sept. 29. Doors are at 8 p.m. and tickets are $10.
