In pride and parades

As festival day for NC Pride 2000, Saturday will host a number of entertaining events, kicking off with a parade at 1 p.m. that features dozens of floats, and marchers such as Mayor Mike Nelson, Reverend Jimmy Creech, poet Jeffery Beam and others. The parade will begin at Duke East Campus on Campus Drive. Throughout the rest of the day, festivities include speakers and entertainers, a 2 p.m. family picnic, an 8:15 p.m. concert by the Voices of St. John's MCC Gospel Choir (call Manbites Dog Theater at 682-3343 for details), and, capping off the night, a 10 p.m. NC Pride Womyn's Party at Visions, which promises a live drag king show and professional dancers ($7 admission at the door only). For more details, call 942-9553.
