The Preservation Society of Chapel Hill is featuring the work of Joe Lipka and Bruce Melkowits beginning July 7, in an exhibition titled The Way We See It. Lipka has been working in photography for over 30 years and has authored numerous magazine articles on the form. He'll be showing 15 photographs from a series called "Prairie Schools," depicting schools in the high prairie of Oregon. His platinum prints combine a process developed in the 1870s with digital technology, to produce unique images. Bruce Melkowits has won an Emerging Artist grant from the Durham Arts Council. In his work, he likes to isolate objects and incidents and photograph them out of context, reimagining them for the viewer (see "Bodark," pictured). See their work at the Horace Williams House in Chapel Hill through July 31. Call 942-7818 for details.
