The Gay and Lesbian Victory Foundation has brought a new nationally touring exhibit, Out & Elected in the U.S.A., to the Triangle. The exhibit features 60 photographs, with accompanying texts, of openly gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans who've served or currently are serving in elected office in this country. "This is a remarkable and thought-provoking body of work that documents the past 30 years of a significant emerging trend in U.S. political history," says openly gay Carrboro mayor Mike Nelson. Nelson is featured, along with former Chapel Hill Town Council member Joe Hertzenberg, in a collection that includes subjects from 30 of the 33 states where openly gay individuals have been elected. The Carrboro Century Center will be kicking off the tour with a reception Sunday, April 14, from 5 to 7 p.m., and the exhibition will be up from April 14 until May 12. Call 918-7365 for details.
