About 75,000 of you party animals out there hit the streets last Dec. 31 for First Night Raleigh, a colorful, multicultural, alcohol-free arts fair with dozens of events centered around Moore Square, the downtown museum and galleries district, and Fayetteville Street Mall. This year's edition features more music, theater, storytelling, visual art and strange behavior than you possibly take in on one evening. Musicians range from Claire Holley and Christine Lavin (pictured above) to bluesman Abe Reid and ambient percussionist Jubal Creech. After Paperhand Puppet Intervention's famous multi-story puppets take to the air, Chuck Davis' African American Dance Ensemble get us back to the ground. Don't forget the special afternoon activities for the children. Admission buttons $10 adults, $7 children, free for kids under 2, available at regional Harris Teeters and Kerr Drugs.
